My 2015 “Cabin Fever” bus tour, Sunday 3/15

The 2015 “Cabin Fever” bus tour…A different look at the heritage of Chillicothe, Ohio

Enjoy an unusual exploration of the history of your hometown in an intimate bus tour with a local expert.

If you missed it in previous years, local historian and guide Kevin Coleman encores his “Cabin Fever Tour” 1-3pm and 3-5pm Sunday, March 15, 2015.

The tour begins and ends downtown but will go most everywhere else, winding through the south, east, and northwest sides of town. Guests will ride a small bus and learn about some of the forgotten and overlooked heritage of Chillicothe.

There I am, running my mouth again. (Giving a heritage bus tour to members of the Chillicothe Baptist Church, 17 July 2012 - photo courtesy of John Bowling).
Not the Cabin Fever tour, but close enough! (Giving a heritage bus tour to members of the Chillicothe Baptist Church, 17 July 2012 – photo courtesy of John Bowling).

What mounds and earthworks were here before the town was platted? What cemeteries are no longer in their original places? What one-time “world’s largest” does Chillicothe have? What buried streams wind under city streets? What’s the history of older industrial parks and moved buildings? What school was built on the old fairgrounds? Where is the coffin factory, and the all-steel ranch house? What’s left of the largest employer of the East Side? Learn answers to those and more.

Tickets for the 1-1/2 hour tour are $12 in advance, $15 at the door (but seating is limited) – with a $2 discount for kids who want to learn! Guests who pay for the first 5 tickets get a free future walking tour.

For reservations or sales (cash or check only), stop in or contact the Ross-Chillicothe Convention & Visitors Bureau at 45 East Main – 740 / 702-ROSS (7677) or Info@VisitChillicotheOhio.com.

For more information (but not sales or reservations), contact Kevin at 740 / 775-4036 or IHS@HorizonView.net. If tours are filled, leave your contact information for a possible encore or similar tours. If weather is too extreme, a postponement will be announced.

The start and end location is the public parking lot at Water and Paint streets – but sponsorships are available for businesses where Kevin will give a brief history of that location at least 15 minutes before boarding.

This tour is provided by Kevin B. Coleman • Intrepid Heritage Services, and the Ross-Chillicothe Convention & Visitors Bureau.

And stay tuned for more tours, talks, and presentations by Kevin!

  1. There are still seats left, but they’re available only at the door Sunday for $15 (cash or check). I plan to be at the Water & Paint parking lot by 12:45 for the first tour, and should return about 2:50 for the second. If you can’t make it, I can give the same tour (or something completely different!) by request.
